Borge Mogensen While his work was mostly conceived and built for broad production, it provides an attention to quality and detail that ultimately secures his place in design history. Minimalism and functionalism are combined with the natural beauty of wood and high quality craftsmanship. His real radicalism, if one can call it that, comes from his departure from the Danish middle class obsession with mahogany toward a freer, more open, use of the lighter woods of beech and oak. As with his counterparts, he also worked with teak and, somewhat more rarely, in rosewood. Retaining a sophisticated air, his designs easily speak to our modern day desire for a more simplistic, yet elegant lifestyle.
